Europe – from mystical Iceland to the Cyclades
The mythology of the Greeks was the inspiration for the naming of Europe. Europe is said to have been a Phoenician king’s daughter who seduced Zeus, the father of the gods. Originally, only the land between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea was referred to as “Europe”. Today, this is an association of 47 countries with a population of 700 million and it is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Travel in Europe is still in vogue and the respective destinations enjoy numerous facets. They range from the mystical regions of Iceland to the idyllic islands of the Greek Cyclades.
Spain, Portugal, Italy and France are among the preferred countries – apart from those travellers who also feel very comfortable in the romantic cities and enchanting landscapes of Germany. Insiders among holidaymakers in Europe pick the cherries out of the cake and book trips to the almost hidden treasures of the “Old World”. For example, to the steep rock faces and lakes of the French Verdon Gorge.
Or to a picturesque fjord in Norway. For some, culture comes before nature, and it can be found in the big cities of Europe – London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Vienna.
