5. Analysis tools and advertising

Google Analytics

This website uses functions of the web analysis service Google Analytics. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies”. These are text files that are stored on your computer and enable an analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

The storage of Google Analytics cookies is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the analysis of user behaviour in order to optimise both its website and its advertising.

IP anonymization

We have activated the IP anonymization function on this website. As a result, your IP address will be shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area before it is transmitted to the USA. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity and to provide other services related to website activity and internet use to the website operator. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other data held by Google.

Browser Plugin

You can prevent the storage of cookies by setting your browser software accordingly; however, we would like to point out that in this case you may not be able to use all the functions of this website to their full extent. You can also prevent the collection of the data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.

Objection to data collection

You can prevent the collection of your data by Google Analytics by clicking on the following link. An opt-out cookie will be set that prevents the collection of your data on future visits to this website: Deactivate Google Analytics.

You can find more information on the handling of user data by Google Analytics in Google’s privacy policy: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=de.

Commissioned data processing

We have concluded a contract data processing agreement with Google and fully implement the strict requirements of the German data protection authorities when using Google Analytics.

Demographics on Google Analytics

This website uses the “demographic characteristics” function of Google Analytics. This allows reports to be generated that contain statements about the age, gender and interests of the site visitors. This data comes from interest-based advertising from Google as well as visitor data from third-party providers. This data cannot be assigned to a specific person. You can deactivate this function at any time via the ad settings in your Google account or generally prohibit the collection of your data by Google Analytics as described in the section “Objection to data collection”.

Google AdSense

This website uses Google AdSense, a service for the integration of advertisements from Google Inc. (“Google”). The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Google AdSense uses so-called “cookies”, which are text files that are stored on your computer and that enable an analysis of the use of the website. Google AdSense also uses so-called web beacons (invisible graphics). These web beacons can be used to evaluate information such as visitor traffic on these pages.

The information generated by cookies and web beacons about the use of this website (including your IP address) and the delivery of advertising formats is transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. This information may be shared by Google with Google’s contractual partners. However, Google will not associate your IP address with any other data we hold about you.

The storage of AdSense cookies is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the analysis of user behaviour in order to optimise both its website and its advertising.

You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting your browser software accordingly; however, we would like to point out that in this case you may not be able to use all the functions of this website to their full extent. By using this website, you consent to the processing of the data collected about you by Google in the manner and for the purpose described above.

Google Analytics Remarketing

Our websites use the functions of Google Analytics Remarketing in conjunction with the cross-device functions of Google AdWords and Google DoubleClick. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

This feature makes it possible to link the advertising audiences created with Google Analytics Remarketing to the cross-device features of Google AdWords and Google DoubleClick. In this way, interest-based, personalized advertising messages that have been adapted to you depending on your previous usage and surfing behavior on one device (e.g. mobile phone) can also be displayed on another of your devices (e.g. tablet or PC).

If you have given your consent, Google will link your web and app browsing history to your Google Account for this purpose. This way, the same personalized advertising messages can be displayed on every device where you sign in with your Google Account.

To support this feature, Google Analytics collects Google-authenticated IDs of users, which are temporarily linked to our Google Analytics data to define and create audiences for cross-device advertising.

You can permanently opt out of cross-device remarketing/targeting by opting out of personalized advertising in your Google Account; follow this link: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb/.

The aggregation of the collected data in your Google account is carried out exclusively on the basis of your consent, which you can give or revoke to Google (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR). In the case of data collection operations that are not merged into your Google account (e.g. because you do not have a Google account or have objected to the merge), the collection of data is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The legitimate interest arises from the fact that the website operator has an interest in the anonymised analysis of website visitors for advertising purposes.

Further information and the privacy policy can be found in Google’s privacy policy at: https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/.

Google AdWords and Google Conversion Tracking

This website uses Google AdWords. AdWords is an online advertising program of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”).

As part of Google AdWords, we use so-called conversion tracking. When you click on an ad served by Google, a cookie is set for conversion tracking. Cookies are small text files that the Internet browser stores on the user’s computer. These cookies expire after 30 days and are not used to personally identify users. If the user visits certain pages of this website and the cookie has not yet expired, Google and we can recognize that the user has clicked on the ad and has been redirected to that page.

Each Google AdWords customer receives a different cookie. The cookies cannot be tracked through the websites of AdWords customers. The information collected using the conversion cookie is used to compile conversion statistics for AdWords customers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers will see the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a page with a conversion tracking tag. However, they do not receive any information that can be used to personally identify users. If you do not wish to participate in tracking, you can object to this use by slightly deactivating the Google Conversion Tracking cookie via your Internet browser under User Settings. They will then not be included in the conversion tracking statistics.

The storage of “conversion cookies” is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the analysis of user behaviour in order to optimise both its website and its advertising.

You can find more information about Google AdWords and Google conversion tracking in Google’s privacy policy: https://www.google.de/policies/privacy/.

You can set your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and only allow cookies in individual cases, exclude the acceptance of cookies in certain cases or in general, and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when you close the browser. If you disable cookies, the functionality of this website may be limited.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use “Google reCAPTCHA” (hereinafter “reCAPTCHA”) on our websites. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”).

The purpose of reCAPTCHA is to verify whether data is entered on our websites (e.g. in a contact form) by a human or by an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyzes the behavior of the website visitor based on various characteristics. This analysis begins automatically as soon as the website visitor enters the website. For analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, time spent on the website by the website visitor or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis is forwarded to Google.

The reCAPTCHA analyses run completely in the background. Website visitors are not informed that an analysis is taking place.

The data processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in protecting its websites from abusive automated spying and spam.

For more information about Google reCAPTCHA and Google’s privacy policy, please refer to the following links: https://www.google.com/intl/de/policies/privacy/ and https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/android.html.

Affiliate Programs

Within our online offer, we use on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimization and economic operation of our online offer) acc. Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR, insofar as these are necessary for the operation of the affiliate system. In the following, we explain the technical background to the users.

The services offered by our contractual partners may also be advertised and linked to on other websites (so-called affiliate links or after-buy systems, if, for example, links or services of third parties are offered after the conclusion of a contract). The operators of the respective websites receive a commission if users follow the affiliate links and then take advantage of the offers.

In summary, it is necessary for our online offer that we can track whether users who are interested in affiliate links and/or the offers available from us subsequently take advantage of the offers at the instigation of the affiliate links or our online platform. For this purpose, the affiliate links and our offers are supplemented by certain values, which can be set as part of the link or otherwise, e.g. in a cookie. The values include, in particular, the source website (referrer), time, an online identifier of the operators of the website on which the affiliate link was located, an online identifier of the respective offer, an online identifier of the user, as well as tracking-specific values such as advertising material ID, partner ID and categorizations.

The online identifiers of the users we use are pseudonymous values. This means that the online identifiers themselves do not contain any personal data such as names or e-mail addresses. They only help us to determine whether the same user who clicked on an affiliate link or was interested in an offer via our online offer took advantage of the offer, i.e. e.g. concluded a contract with the provider. However, the online identifier is personal insofar as the partner company and also we have the online identifier together with other user data. This is the only way the partner company can tell us whether the user has taken advantage of the offer and whether we can, for example, pay out the bonus.

The affiliate systems we use include:

AWIN AG, Eichhornstraße 3, 10785 Berlin, Germany, Germany
belboon GmbH Weinmeisterstr. 12-14, 10178 Berlin, Germany, Germany

This allows Get Your Guide to recognize that you have clicked on the affiliate link on our website and then made a purchase on GetYourGuide.de.

The storage of “Get Your Guide cookies” is based on Art. 6 lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in this, as the amount of its affiliate remuneration can only be determined through the cookies.
