Nowadays, Flachau is a very well-known holiday destination. Today, tourism is the most important pillar of the municipality.

Tourism has developed in this area since the 1950s, after the Flachauer Schützen- und Trachtenverein was in Nuremberg and participated in the Munich Oktoberfest. This led to an interest in the area and the first tourists visited Flachau in the summer.

With an ever-improving infrastructure, tourism continued to develop. Most of the inhabitants of Flachau today live directly or indirectly from the tourists. In summer, the resort offers a varied range of leisure activities and in winter, winter sports enthusiasts will find 760 kilometres of slopes and 270 lifts in the Ski Amadé ski association.

Flachau is part of the Ski Amadé ski region and in the winter of 2017/18 merged with the neighbouring towns of St. Johann and Wagrain to form Snow Space Salzburg . This association offers the most modern cable car facilities, cosy ski huts, events and après-ski locations.

There are 120 kilometres of slopes around Flachau, which are connected to 45 modern cable cars. These slopes are in different levels of difficulty, so that the beginner can have just as much fun as the professional. A Hermann Maier World Cup course with a photo point also invites the ambitious skier. And after a long day of skiing, 60 rustic ski huts and some après-ski bars offer a warm place for a cosy get-together.

In the evening, the toboggan runs, most of which are illuminated, invite you to a fun descent.

Outdoor in winter

Even outside the cross-country ski trails and slopes, winter holidaymakers can spend a very eventful time. Curling is a very sociable winter sport in which there is a lot of exercise.

For the quiet hours, a horse-drawn sleigh ride is a good idea. This unforgettable event in the snow-covered mountains rounds off every winter holiday.

The wonderful winter landscape can also be enjoyed on foot. Apart from good shoes and warm clothing, no other equipment is necessary for this. For this pleasure, 40 km of winter hiking trails have been cleared. And along the way there is always a hut where you can warm up with a warm tea.
