  • Canberra was only named the capital because Melbourne and Sydney were constantly arguing about it.

  • The Australian island of Tasmania, which is off the coast of Australia, has the cleanest air in the world.
  • There is hardly any other country in the world that has 19 UNESCO Cultural and World Heritage Sites on a comparatively large area.
  • The Aborigines, the indigenous people of Australia, are considered the oldest continuous culture in the world. Their number is estimated at 60,000. They worship Uluru, the sacred mountain for which each tourist must apply for their own visit permit. The special thing about this mountain is that 2.5 km of its mass is below the earth’s surface.
