Azerbaijan, located between Russia and Iran and bordered by the Caspian Sea to the east, is a country rich in history, culture and nature. It combines elements of Eastern and Western culture and is known as the “Land of Fire” due to its rich oil and gas deposits as well as the eternal flames that shoot out of the mountains.
The capital Baku is a dynamic hub with an impressive skyline, historic buildings and modern structures. The Old Town “İçərişəhər” is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to a variety of historical monuments, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden’s Tower.
Outside the capital, you’ll find a diverse landscape that ranges from semi-arid plains to snow-capped peaks. Gobustan National Park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its prehistoric rock carvings, which are an important archaeological site.
Azerbaijani cuisine is varied and tasty, offering a wide range of meat, vegetable and rice dishes, often enhanced with fresh herbs and spices. A well-known national dish is plov, a rice dish with meat, vegetables and dried fruits.
Azerbaijan is a multicultural country that combines Islamic traditions with modern influences and hospitality. It presents a fascinating mix of ancient traditions and contemporary dynamism that makes it an interesting destination for explorers.
